A Kalman filter is an algorithm that combines measurements from several sensors, each with known uncertainty, into one best estimate that is updated every time a new measurement arrives. In an INS-GNSS it corrects the drifting inertial solution with GNSS fixes and estimates the sensor errors as it goes.
