An accelerometer measures linear acceleration along one axis, including the pull of gravity. At rest, three accelerometers show which way is down, which gives roll and pitch. In motion, integrating acceleration gives velocity and then position.
Where it is used
- Tilt measurement
- Vibration monitoring
- Inertial navigation
