A gyroscope is a sensor that measures angular rate: how fast it is turning about an axis, usually in degrees per second or per hour. Integrating the rate gives the change in angle. Modern gyroscopes are MEMS devices or fibre optic gyroscopes; older ones used a spinning wheel.
