Airborne Systems

Flightworthy AHRS for aircraft

An attitude and heading reference system built for airborne use, flying as the cockpit standby instrument that takes over when the primary INS fails.

Aircraft cockpit display

The challenge

An aircraft cannot lose its attitude and heading. If the primary INS fails, the cockpit still needs a reliable attitude and heading reference on its displays.

That instrument has to be certified to fly. Its software and hardware must meet airborne design standards, and the unit must be qualified for the aircraft environment.

How we solve it

Octantis 2 AN5300S is a type-certified, flightworthy AHRS already flying on various aircraft platforms. Tactical-grade MEMS gyroscopes, accelerometers and a built-in magnetometer give uninterrupted attitude and heading to the cockpit displays, as the primary instrument or as the standby.

  • The standby instrument in the cockpit

Feeds attitude and heading to electronic flight instrumentation and cockpit displays. Its performance is benchmarked to TSO for flight instrumentation and attitude indication.

  • Certified software and hardware

Software independently verified and validated to DO-178B Level B with 100% MC/DC coverage. Hardware to DO-254.

  • Redundant sensors, continuous self-test

Redundant triaxial MEMS gyroscopes and accelerometers, with a continuous built-in test that monitors sensor and power supply health.

  • Holds up in high dynamics

Accepts true airspeed, external magnetic field and pressure altitude inputs. Angular rate range up to ±450°/s and acceleration up to ±15 g, for the high dynamics of fighter aircraft.

  • Fits the avionics

Isolated RS232 and RS422 at 50 Hz, isolated 12 to 32 V DC input with lightning protection, and under 2.5 W, so it needs no cooling.
